Welcome to our school

Welcome to Jackson Elementary School, home of the mighty Silver Salmon!

Since our doors opened in 1948, our Jackson school community and staff have been proud of our family tradition. Each of our children's success as learners and leaders is our shared gift and responsibility. Our highly trained staff enjoys their work with our 350 students from kindergarten through fifth grade. As a small community, we all truly benefit from the chance to develop lifelong relationships with our students and their families.

Here at Jackson we understand that creating a positive, productive and inclusive learning environment is a shared commitment. We demonstrate the importance of this every day by modeling and helping students practice good citizenship. To do this, we give and expect the 3Rs: Respect, Responsibility, and being Ready to do our best. Since we also know excellence only happens when our children are truly engaged in their own learning, we also choose Positive Actions to teach and recognize throughout the year.

As Marzano (2007) recommends in his book The Art and Science of Teaching, our Jackson staff align their instruction with what we know about best practices. We collaborate to create lessons that actively engage all students and enrich their critical thinking skills and knowledge base across the curriculum:

• Teaching and monitoring routine activities and behaviors by determining and maintaining expectations/ procedures, establishing and communicating learning goals, and tracking progress to celebrate success and give feedback.
• Facilitating how students interact with new knowledge, practice/extend their understanding, and generate/test hypotheses.
• Monitoring student engagement and communicating high expectations for all students as well as establishing and maintaining strong relationships with students and parents alike.

Additionally, we provide many ways for our parents to stay informed and connected. Our District website has a wellspring of curriculum and scope/sequence information while our Jackson website is updated with school information as well. For those who prefer newsletters, our PTA regularly distributes their Fish Tales and our Jackson School Streamlines also keeps parents updated on coming events.

Along with our strong PTA and Title I support, we continue to honor our family tradition and best practice instruction in service of our children - carefully building upon each child's successes. There are truly endless ways to share the joy of learning with us- just let us know how you'd like to partner for kids so we can include your talents!
