District special programs and services
Section 504 is a federal civil rights law that is designed to eliminate disability discrimination in programs and activities that receive federal funds. Since all public school districts receive federal funds, all public school districts must comply with Section 504. Under Section 504, denying a disabled student a free appropriate public education constitutes disability discrimination.
Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP)
The Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program is a preschool and parent program for low income families based on the Head Start model. The program provides a two generational program designed to provide children with education and health services and parents with skills in parenting. Low income parents may apply for this program.
District schools in the program are: Garfield Elementary, Hawthorne Elementary,Madison Elementary, and Silver Lake Elementary.
English Language Learner (ELL)
The English Language Learner program is funded by state and local funds. The program provides structured language acquisition instruction to students whose native language is not English. Students are assessed on a language assessment survey that includes oral communication, reading and writing tests. Students whose scores indicate that they are in need of assistance receive English Language Learner service.
All district schools are in the program.
Highly Capable and Challenging Options Programs (HighCap)
Challenging Options classes provide extra academic challenges for students in grades 2-12. Visit the Highly Capable and Challenging Options Web site for program information for all grade levels.
Homeless - Kids in Transition (KIT)
The Kids In Transition Program is designed to assist homeless children access the public education system. The program provides students with academic remediation and assistance in skills to re-enter the public school system. The staff works closely with other public agencies in assisting these children.
Learning Assistance Program (LAP)
The Learning Assistance Program is a statefunded program providing financial assistance to schools to strengthen the skills of students who may be in need of additional services to meet the academic standards. The Everett School District program is designed to supplement the regular classroom program and to provide academic opportunities for students in Kindergarten through grade nine to meet the standards in reading, math and language arts. Each site develops assessments and criteria to identify students most in need of academic assistance. These students are then placed in the program.
District schools in the program are: Jefferson Elementary, James Monroe Elementary, View Ridge Elementary, Whittier Elementary, Woodside Elementary, Eisenhower Middle, Evergreen Middle and North Middle.
The Title I Program is federally funded and provides financial assistance to meet the specific needs of educationally deprived children in school attendance areas having a high concentration of children from low income families. There are two programs in the Everett School District funded by Title I.
Schoolwide Program:
The Schoolwide Program is designed to upgrade the school's entire educational program, rather than to target services only to identified children. Each site develops a schoolwide plan that includes strategies to assist students in meeting the academic standards by enhancing the learning of all students enrolled at that site.
District schools in the program are: Emerson Elementary, Garfield Elementary, Hawthorne Elementary, Jackson Elementary, Lowell Elementary, Madison Elementary and Silver Lake Elementary.
